Decision Letter

Appeal Number: 4405
Decision Date: May 16, 2018
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Francesca de Vries
Student Email: 15fdv@queensu.ca

Dear Ms. de Vries:

I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the one term deadline for submission. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, I have decided to waive the timeline and grant your request to drop MATH 120 and CHEM 112 (F 2016-17) past the academic deadlines. It is not clear whether it is the mathematical nature of these courses (material you find more difficult) which led to your failing grades or the impact of a health condition, as all your math based course grades are low and Philosophy 115 higher. However, given the support you have from QSAS, I will grant this appeal.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Going forward, please note that you will be expected to drop courses by the drop deadline dates. That means stopping to reflect on your progress during week 7 & 8 and dropping any courses in which you have fallen behind by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute.

Sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
