Dear Ms. Chow:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop RELS 393 (W 2017), DEVS 220, DEVS 230 and POLS 482 (F 2017) past the academic deadline as well as receive Aegrotat standing in DEVS 340 (F 2017). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. I will grant your request to drop DEVS 220, DEVS 230 and POLS 482 past the academic deadline and receive Aegrotat standing in DEVS 340.

Your extenuating circumstances from the 2017 fall term are well documented and your instructor confirmed that you are eligible for an AG grade in DEVS 340. Your grade will appear on your transcript as B along with the notation €œAegrotat: Estimated Grade€.

2. I must unfortunately deny your request to drop RELS 393 past the academic deadline.

Your appeal states that you failed this course because you were unable to submit your final research paper. However, your instructor confirmed that your final research paper was received and you received a grade of 65. It was your term work (reflection journal) that led to your failing grade in RELS 393 which you failed to work on over the course of the term, prior to your great-grandmother€™s passing in early April. There is no explanation supplied as to why you were unable to submit this particular work and no supporting documentation supplied to confirm the reasons; therefore, I am not able to justify dropping this class late.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. His office is located in room 421 Robert Sutherland Hall and he can be reached by phone (533-6495) or e-mail (ombuds@queensu.ca).

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
