Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 4638
Decision Date: May 30, 2018
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Abby Ostrander
Student Email: 16ao@queensu.ca
Course: BCHM 218
Term: Summer
Year: 2018
Category: Add a course after the academic deadline
Instructor: John Allingham
Dear Ms. Ostrander:
I have carefully considered your appeal to add BCHM 218 (S 2018) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
There is no documentation to confirm the timeline of your extenuating circumstances that prevented you from adding this course earlier. Summer term registration opened in February and students had the ability to add repeated courses as well as drop them by the published deadlines if they discovered that a repeat was not necessary. It appears from your transcript that you also need to repeat CHEM 222 and CHEM 223 as well so completing BCHM 218 over the summer will not help you access your 300 level BCHM courses any sooner. It would not be in your best academic interests to allow you to begin a course halfway through Week 4 of a 12 week term.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact Mr. Harry Smith, Office of the Ombudsman for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative. His office is located in room 421 Robert Sutherland Hall and he can be reached by phone (533-6495) or e-mail (ombuds@queensu.ca).
Sincerely,
Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
