Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 4441
Decision Date: June 6, 2018
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Sanjana Rahman
Student Email: sanjana.rahman@queensu.ca
Course: RELS 212
Term: Winter
Year: 2018
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Ms. Rahman:
I have carefully considered your appeal to drop RELS 212 (W 2018) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition and appeals to drop failed courses or change low grades to Credit will likely not be granted if they are based on the same circumstances (heightened anxiety and lack of or inappropriate medication). I understand that such health issues compromise academic performance. However the way to manage this is to pause at week 7 or 8 and evaluate your progress. If you are not keeping up with readings, assignments and tests due to circumstances beyond your control, the appropriate remedy is to drop the courses(s) by week 8. Appeals for Credit and late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute.
Yours sincerely,
Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
