Dear Mr. Dave:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Credit standing in MATH 121 (S 2015), BIOL 202 and BIOL 206 (W 2016) as well as receive Aegrotat standing in PHGY 214 (FW 2015/16, FW 2016/17 and FW 2017/18) and ANAT 316 (W 2017 and W 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request. Note that your request to receive Credit standing in BIOL 201 (F 2015) was already appealed and denied in January 2016; therefore, it cannot be heard again.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed all of the work of the course including the final examination, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower€. Credit standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
You are currently a fourth year student and there is documentation on file of your chronic health condition that has affected you since first year Your transcript shows that your grades vary significantly from year to year and within the same terms. You are asking to appeal all of the low grades on your transcript from Summer 2015 to Winter 2018, nine courses in total. You file shows that you have sought and received support from second year, both in personal counselling and academic counselling, and since last spring, you received medical and psychological counselling as well.
Your appeal does not clearly explain why your condition affects some courses more than others (ANAT, PHGY and BIOL core courses specifically) nor why, despite your frequent contact with the Faculty Office and Student Wellness Services, you chose not to drop courses when you were unable to keep up with the academic requirements. I cannot justify going back over a transcript to remove low grades based on these facts.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
