Dear Mr. Atthari:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ANAT 101, KNPE 125, PACT P01 (W 2015), BIOL 102, CHEM 113 (S 2015), ANAT 315, BIOL 243, KNPE 237, KNPE 254 (F 2015), ANAT 316, KNPE 125, KNPE 265 (W 2016) and receive Credit standing in PSYC 100 (FW 2014/15), HLTH 237, PHAR 100 (W 2016) as well as waive the requirement to withdraw for a minimum of three years. After reviewing your file I have decided to grant your request for the late drops and credit standings which will remove the requirement to withdraw for three years ruling, although technically I am not granting the RTW3 waiver. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University.

I am concerned that you have been struggling with a chronic condition for several years and despite being placed on probation and subsequently required to withdraw, you did not seek accommodations nor drop courses by the deadlines at week 8 upon your return to studies. Only upon being notified of being required to withdraw for three years did you finally seek help. I understand that reaching out for help can be difficult but it€™s important to understand that it is your responsibility to manage your condition from here on. Specifically, it is your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan. I hope that you will take advantage of the variety of support services available to you at Queen's. Academic counselling is available through an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office (main floor Dunning Hall, phone 613-533-2470) and you can discuss the most effective way to ensure you meet the course and GPA requirements for the completion of your degree. This course of action will help ensure you will be in good academic standing and not at risk of being required to withdraw for 3 years in the future. The Student Academic Success Services in Stauffer Library also provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life. Further, the Student Wellness Services Centre located in the LaSalle Building at 146 Stuart Street (613-533-2506) offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students, as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.

Going forward, you should pause to reflect on your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and attending classes, completing your readings and assignments during week 7 & 8. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems are more acute.

I also wanted to inform you of the Academic Consideration options which you can review at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/accommodations for future reference.

Sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
