I have carefully considered your appeal to return to your studies after a requirement to withdraw for a minimum of three years has lapsed. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University.
In order to reactivate your student file, you must complete a €œReturn to Studies€ form: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/default/files/return_to_studies.pdf and return it to our office as soon as possible. Please ensure you indicate your desired Degree Program and Plan (concentration). Once our office has received departmental approval of your Degree Plan, your file will be reactivated. For information on registration and course selection, please see: www.queensu.ca/artsci and click on €œStudents@Queen€™s€. For information on tuition payment and accessing SOLUS (Queen's on-line student system), please see: www.queensu.ca/registrar or contact the Registrar's office at (613) 533-2040. For more information on selecting a Degree Plan, please contact our office for advice or assistance.
As you might be aware, the academic regulations and grading system changed at Queen€™s in 2012. Academic Regulation 13 currently states that at the end of each Winter Term in which a student has attempted 18.0 or more units since the time of their previous assessment, that student is assessed for academic progression. Normally, at the time of this assessment, if the GPA is below 1.60 an academic sanction is triggered. However, because you completed the majority of your credits before this change, we will allow you to be grand-parented under the old regulations up to this time. Moving forward, you must maintain an average GPA of at least 1.60 (C- average) on all classes taken from this point forward to maintain good academic standing and to meet the minimum requirements to graduate. Please feel free to contact our office at (613) 533-2470 and we can arrange an appointment for you to speak with an academic advisor.
As part of your return to studies, you may wish to seek academic counselling from an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services office to go over your Degree Program requirements as well. Appointments can be made by dropping in to our office (Main Floor Dunning Hall) or by phoning (613) 533-2470. You may also wish to contact the Undergraduate Online office by phoning (613) 533-3322 for advice on the successful completion of your academic program. Furthermore, I encourage you to take advantage of the helpful online Learning Resources at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci_online/learning-resources to aid you in your studies.
Going forward, you should pause to reflect on your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and completing your readings and assignments during week 7 & 8. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems are more acute and is not meant to manage ongoing conditions.
