I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the 21-day or one term deadline. After reviewing your appeal, I must unfortunately deny your request.
As you know, the academic requirements in the Faculty of Arts and Science are clearly outlined in the Academic Regulation section of the Calendar and were clearly outlined in the Requirement to Withdraw for One Year letter you received. The requirement to appeal that ruling within 21 days is in place to ensure fair decision making and provide the student with an opportunity to collect relevant information for their appeal. Your appeal does not demonstrate to me extenuating circumstances or documentation which prevented you from submitting that appeal within the 21 day deadline.
Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond your control and debilitating to your overall academic performance. Additionally, these kinds of extraordinary situations are normally supported by documentation from a professional. Your appeal suggests that you did not receive the letter stating that you were Required to Withdraw for One Year, however our records indicate that an electronic letter was successfully delivered to you on May 22, 2018.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
