Dear Ms. Naumann:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Credit standing in SOCY 122 (FW 2016-17), CLST 200 (F 2017) and PSYC 236 (W 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
While it is apparent that you were coping with a health condition that is documented, the pattern of grades earned in all your first year courses is fairly consistent and SOCY 122 does not stand out as a course that was impacted more so than your other courses during that time period. Further, the pattern of grades in both first year and second year is consistent and your extenuating circumstances do not seem to have impacted CLST 200 and PSYC 236 specifically.
The appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems but is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. I encourage you to continue to work with your Counsellor and meet with an Academic Advisor to manage your academics. Your letter suggests that you are interested in applying to law school and that you need to improve your GPA. To meet that goal, I suggest that you consider taking a lighter course load and meet with an academic advisor to discuss effective ways to improve your GPA, which may mean repeating lower grade courses and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term so that you can meet the drop deadlines as established by the Faculty of Arts & Science.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
