Dear Ms. Cox:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 111 and PSYC 251 (W 2014) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. I will grant your request to drop ECON 111 past the academic deadline.
2. I will deny your request to drop PSYC 251 past the academic deadline.

While your appeal does describe some circumstances that are extenuating in nature, I must deny your request to drop PSYC 251 because you have a finding of a departure from academic integrity in this course. According to Academic Regulation 1 of the Arts and Science calendar (1.3.1), €œIf the penalty amounts to a failure in the class, the student may not drop the class, regardless of the drop deadlines€. As the finding represented a fairly significant part of your final grade (20) and you were assigned a grade of zero in this assignment, I must conclude that this ultimately amounted to your failure in the course.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact Mr. Harry Smith, Office of the Ombudsperson for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative. His office is located in room 237 Robert Sutherland Hall and he can be reached by phone (533-6495) or e-mail (ombuds@queensu.ca).

Sincerely,

Johanne Bénard, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
