Dear Mr. Hall:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop SPAN 111 (Summer 2018) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the extenuating circumstances outlined in your letter of appeal, but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage challenging life circumstances. Instead, I encourage you to realistically appraise your course load and evaluate the impact of your circumstances such as work, parenting and the situation in Pond Inlet prior to week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and give them adequate time to evaluate their progress in light of their issues. You€™ve done very well given your circumstances and your heavy course load. While I appreciate wanting to complete university in a timely manner, a slightly more management course load might result in even higher grades.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
