Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Mr. Naqvi:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop STAT 263 (F 2018) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Please note that MATH 111 is a full year course so you can drop that course on SOLUS. The last date to drop a full year course is March 1, 2019.

I have exercised some leniency in this decision, acknowledging the first year and cultural challenges you have faced. Going forward, I suggest that you use the supports the university has available including Queen€™s University International Centre (QUIC) and various health promotion programs offered through Student Wellness Services. You should meet with an Academic Advisor during week 7 or 8 of the term and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and are completing your assignments on time. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute and is not meant to manage ongoing conditions.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
