Dear Mr. Sawyer:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 100 (S 2018) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I would like to note that I have exercised some leniency in this decision, acknowledging the challenges you faced while registered in this course but I need to warn you that general life circumstances, which may be difficult but not exceptional or unexpected, are not considered extenuating. In addition, although you report that there were distractions during your PSYC 100 exam, we do not have an official record of that and I would suggest that should something of this nature occur again, you contact the Continuing and Distance Studies office as quickly as possible to report those circumstances.

I encourage you to make it standard practice to evaluate your academic performance prior to the deadline dates to drop courses. During the Fall and Winter terms, you should pause at week 7 to evaluate your progress. If you are not keeping up with readings, assignments and tests due to circumstances beyond your control, the appropriate remedy is to drop the courses(s) by week 8.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
