Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 5219
Decision Date: January 29, 2019
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: JIEXIN XIE
Student Email: 13jx22@queensu.ca
Dear Ms. Xie:
I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the 21-day or one term deadline. After reviewing your appeal, I must unfortunately deny your request.
As you know, the academic requirements in the Faculty of Arts and Science are clearly outlined in the Academic Regulation section of the Calendar and were clearly outlined in the Requirement to Withdraw for One Year letter you received. The requirement to appeal that ruling within 21 days is in place to ensure fair decision making and provide the student with an opportunity to collect relevant information for their appeal. Your circumstances and documentation do not support the timeline which prevented you from submitting that appeal within the 21 day deadline. The documentation we received is dated July 8th, 2018 which is after the 21 day appeal deadline date which was June 12th, 2018.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact the Office of the Ombudsman for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative. Their office is located in room 421 Robert Sutherland Hall and can be reached by phone (613-533-6495) or e-mail (ombuds@queensu.ca).
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
