Dear Ms. Holmes:
I am sorry to hear that you have been struggling with your academics since the passing of your grandmother. I am sure that it has been a very difficult time for you. That being said, after reviewing your appeal request to drop CISC 124 (F 2018) and CISC 124 (F 2018) as well as requesting credit standing in CISC 203 (F 2018), I have decided to deny your request and I will explain why.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
While I am sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision, you would have known that you were struggling before week 8 of term and should have reduced your course load accordingly before the deadline. Persistence is a good characteristic, but knowing yourself and knowing your capacity and acting accordingly is equally important.
