Course: COMM309
Term: Winter
Year: 2019
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Mr. Benbassat:

I am sorry to read of the passing of your mother and I am sure this has been a difficult year. I certainly understand why you are requesting a late drop of COMM 309 and why you would like to carry a lighter course load this term. It is unfortunate that you missed the deadline date to drop this course, but in light of your extenuating circumstances as well as your timely appeal, I have decided to grant your request to drop COMM 309 (W 2019) past the academic deadline.

I do suggest that in the future, you be more mindful of the academic deadline dates to drop courses(s) and ensure that going forward you do not miss the week 8 drop deadline should circumstances arise that require you to drop a course.

Daniel I am concerned about the number of Commerce courses you have taken within your Arts and Science degree program. The maximum number of units allowed which can be taken from another Faculty is 6.0 (ie you can use only two COMM courses towards your Arts and Science degree). You have taken 21.0 units/18.0 now that COMM 309 is dropped. Having registered in this many COMM courses, you are behind in your Arts and Science requirements. I suggest that you discuss this with an Academic Advisor if you have any questions.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
