Dear Michelle Chu:

I am sorry to have read about the challenges you faced this during the Winter 2018 and Fall 2018 terms. Based on the issues you have outlined in your appeal letter, I have carefully considered your request drop EMPR 250 and MUTH 111 (W 2018) and ANSH 101, ENIN 200 and ENIN 300 (F 2018). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request to drop EMPR 250 and MUTH 111 (W 2018) based on your extenuating circumstances which are documented in the letter of support from Dr. Forster. Your grade in this course will appear as a CR on your transcript.

2. To deny your request to drop ANSH 101, ENIN 200 and ENIN 300 (F 2018). Your documentation does not address the Fall term 2018. Also, your documentation does not support your homelessness.

Based on the information and documentation presented in your appeal, I am willing to allow you to drop ANSH 101, ENIN 200 and ENIN 300 (F 2018) past the academic deadline if you are able to provide us with updated documentation that address the severity of your extenuating circumstances during the Fall 2018 term. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca (along with updated documentation) within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

I am pleased to read that you plan to continue to work with your medical professionals to ensure your make continued progress regarding your mental health. As I am sure you are aware, the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems and is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. I would encourage you to consider taking a lighter course load and to evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term and to drop courses if necessary at that time.
