I am sorry to learn about the challenges you describe dealing with from Winter term 2016 to Winter term 2018. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ARTH 215, DRAM 205 (W 2016); ENGL 292 (FW 2016/17); PHIL 204 (W 2018) past the academic deadline as well as request Credit standing in DRAM 220 (W 2018) based on those circumstances. After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances., Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed all of the work of the course including the final examination, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€ Credit standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control and which could not be managed by dropping courses by the deadline.
In the decision letter you received from Associate Dean Johanne Benard dated June 12, 2014, she stated that €œwhile I am granting your appeal I remain concerned that your health challenges may reoccur when you resume your studies again next year. Should this happen, I would strongly suggest that you seek help immediately at the first signs of difficulty and manage your academic load accordingly by dropping courses within the academic deadlines whenever possible.€ It appears that you did not adhere to that advice since you did not drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline dates. Further, you have been encouraged to register with QSAS on multiple occasions and have not done so, nor is there evidence of you seeking treatment for your long standing mental health issues until the Fall term. The documentation you have provided confirms that you have been under a doctor€™s care since October 2018 but your physician notes that the period prior to that date is based on the information you provided to her and cannot be verified.
I encourage you to continue to work with your doctor and strongly suggest that you register with QSAS who can assist you in managing both your health and academics.
