Dear Michael Irvine:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal the challenges you faced during your second year of university study and have carefully considered your appeal to drop MATH 110 (FW 2017/18), MATH 281, STAT 269 (W 2018) and CISC 101 (S 2018) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Instead, students should register with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor to manage their academics and I suggest that you begin the process of registering with QSAS this summer so that accommodations, if necessary, are in place when you resume your studies in September. Further, I strongly recommend that you pause and evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The week 8 drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
