Dear Ling Long:

I was sorry to read of the challenges you faced during the Fall term and understand that these were difficult circumstances to deal with. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CHEM 211, CHEM 212 and BCHM 218 (F 2018) past the academic deadline as well as receive Credit standing in BIOL 243 and CHEM 213 (F 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. To grant your appeal to drop CHEM 211, CHEM 212 and BCHM 218 (F 2018).

2. To grant your appeal for Credit standing in CHEM 213 (F 2018).

3. To deny your request for Credit standing in BIOL 243 (F 2018). The instructor in this course advised that he has already modified your grade. Based on your performance in the course, you actually received a failing grade but the instructor raised the grade to a D- so that you could pass the course.

Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact the Office of the Ombudsman (www.queensu.ca/ombudsman) for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative.

I encourage you to follow through with your plan to continue to work with your support network as well as carrying a lighter course load. I suggest that you carefully evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the term and if your circumstances are impacting your studies, you should ensure you drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline date.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
