Dear Justin Bush:

I was sorry to read that you have been dealing with a medical condition since first year. After carefully considering your appeal to drop ASTR 101, STAT 263 (F 2016); CISC 203 (F 2017); CISC 260, ENIN 140 (S 2018) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing in CISC 204 and CISC 220 (F 2017), I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. An appeal based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future. I strongly encourage you to work with your QSAS advisor to manage both your health and your academics. Due to the nature of your previous difficulties, I have made the decision to place you on part-time status. This fits well with the academic plan you outlined in your appeal letter and will ensure that you have the time to continue to develop adaptive coping skills to manage your symptoms and academics. Note that as a part-time student you will only be allowed a maximum of 18.0 units in the Fall-Winter session with no more than 9.0 units per term. In order to be eligible to progress from part-time to full-time studies, you must fulfill the following conditions:

1. Completed a minimum of 24.0 Queen's credit units, excluding repeated courses, from the time at which they were admitted part-time on a degree Program; and
2. Achieved a minimum Cumulative GPA of 1.90;
OR

1. Completed a minimum of 18.0 Queen's credit units, excluding repeated courses, from the time at which they were admitted part-time on a degree Program; and
2. Achieved a minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.90.

It is my hope that the slower pace of part-time study will allow you sufficient time to remedy the challenges you have faced in the past and thereby enable you to be more successful in your future studies. Going forward, please note that you will be expected to drop courses by the drop deadline dates. That means stopping to reflect on your progress during week 7 & 8 and dropping any courses in which you have fallen behind by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems are more acute.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
