Dear Laura Dillon:

I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you outlined and I have carefully considered your appeal drop HIST 365, HIST 422 (F 2018); ENGL 200, HIST 458 (FW 2018/19); and HIST 401, HIST 461 (W 2019) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. I will grant your request to drop HIST 365, HIST 422 (F 2018) past the academic deadline. Certainly the health related challenges you experienced, as well as your documentation, support these requests.

2. I will deny your request to seeking late drops in ENGL 200, HIST 458 (FW 2018/19); and HIST 401, HIST 461 (W 2019). Your documentation indicates that your functioning was impacted since October 2018 which suggests that you had ample time to drop your F/W and W term courses by the March 1st, 2019 drop deadline date. I cannot therefore justify altering your transcript after the fact for these courses.

I am sure this is a disappointing decision Laura, but let me remind you of the repeat policy which is that if a student repeats a course, the lower grade will be excluded from their GPA and the higher grade will be included in their GPA. This may be a good strategy for you to consider next year.

Going forward, you should be attentive to your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and attending classes, completing your readings and assignments. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter extenuating circumstances after week 8.
