I was sorry to read in your letter that you have been dealing with a number of challenges which impacted your studies, including the death of your grandfather. I am sorry for your loss. After carefully considering your appeal to drop COMM 251 (S 2018) past the academic deadline and receive Credit in COMM 611 (F 2018), I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation. Your grade in COMM 611 will be noted as a CR on your transcript.
I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage an ongoing condition. I encourage you to continue to work with your health management team and to consider taking a lighter course load. You should pause and evaluate the impact of your health on your studies during week 7 of the term and drop courses that you may have fallen behind in prior to the week 8 drop deadline date. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students at Queen's.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
