Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 5732
Decision Date: September 9, 2019

Student Name: Kieran Sadler
Student Email: 0kjs3@queensu.ca
Dear Kieran Sadler:
As per standard practice, I have reviewed your appeal before it proceeds to the Board of Studies for consideration. Based on the new documentation you supplied with this appeal, I have decided to change my original decision and will waive the 21 day deadline as well we waive the €œRequirement to Withdraw for Three years€ ruling. You may now proceed with your studies.
I am also willing to grant you late drops in CLST 214, ENSC 203, POLS 211 (F 2016), POLS 262, POLS 317, POLS 320 (W 2017) past the academic deadline as well as grant you Credit standing in POLS 280 (F 2016). For your information, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all the work of the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€
If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will adjust your transcript accordingly.
As you continue in your course of study it is your responsibility to take steps for the successful completion of your program and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements of your plan. These are some strategies that I strongly encourage you to consider:
€¢ Choose courses carefully. As you know, achieving a higher grade in a repeated course will improve your GPA. I strongly suggest you consider this course of action since it will help to ensure you will be in good academic standing and not at risk of being required to withdraw for three years when we review your academic standing again next year.
€¢ Reflect on your program choice. Are you in the right plan for your interests and aptitudes
€¢ Seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance. Academic counselling is available through an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office (main floor Dunning Hall, phone 613-533-2470) or through your plan department.
€¢ The Learning Commons in Stauffer Library also provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life.
€¢ Continue to work with your wellness supports and consider registering with QSAS who can help support you with both your health and your academics.
€¢ If you do not register with QSAS but encounter extenuating circumstances that inhibit your ability to complete course work, consider seeking Academic Consideration. More information is available at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/accommodations
Please read carefully the document which will follow this letter. It contains important information concerning your current academic standing. If you have any questions about the information, please contact the Faculty Office to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.
Going forward, you should be attentive to your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and attending classes, completing your readings and assignments. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter extenuating circumstances after week 8.
Note that any change in academic registration (e.g. dropping courses) may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding such as OSAP, scholarships, or bursaries. Please consult with the Student Awards Office (Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall) to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load. A change in academic registration may also affect a student€™s enrollment status as a full or part-time student, eligibility for student visas, or benefits through external agencies.
I wish you the best of luck in your studies this year and encourage you to continue to work towards a stable lifestyle
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
