Appeal Number: 6118
Decision Date: September 16, 2019
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Jessica Brender
Student Email: 17jrb4@queensu.ca

Course: STAT 263
Term: Winter
Year: 2019
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Jessica Brender:

I was sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you felt pressure to pursue a degree which was not of interest to you and am pleased to see that you are pursuing your degree plan of choice. Based on the circumstances outlined and the documentation you have provided, I will grant your appeal to drop STAT 263 (W 2019) past the academic deadline.

I strongly suggest that you drop at least one of your current courses. Being registered in six courses per term is outside of our recommended five courses per term. It is important that you set yourself up for success this year Jessica, and carrying such a heavy course load may not lead to that outcome. Please note that the last date to drop a Fall term course without financial penalty is September 18th and the last date to drop a Fall term course without academic penalty is November 1st. I encourage you to pause and evaluate your progress in your courses prior to those dates and if your health is suffering or if you have fallen behind or are not performing to the level you are hoping for, you should drop a course(s).

I do hope that you will continue to work with your medical supports and don€™t hesitate to reach out to our Student Wellness Services office Jessica if you would like to establish assistance here on campus. Their offices are located in Mitchell Hall.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck in the upcoming year

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
