Student Name: Zoe Ferris
Student Email: 18zaf1@queensu.ca

Course: PHIL 157
Term: Fall
Year: 2019
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Zoe Ferris:

I was sorry to read that you have been struggling in your courses since your concussion and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHIL 157 (F 2019) past the academic deadline. After careful review of the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances and agree that adjusting your course load is a good first step in balancing both your health and your academics. Going forward, I strongly suggest that you pause to evaluate the impact of your health on your studies during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students. I encourage you to consider registering with QSAS, if you have not done so already, and work with an accommodation advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health related challenges.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
