Course: HLTH 101
Term: Fall
Year: 2019
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Sanali Ratnaweera:

I was sorry to read that you have had a difficult time transitioning to university and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop HLTH 101 (F 2019) past the academic deadline. After careful review of your appeal and your documentation, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances and am pleased to see that you are taking some time away from your studies to address your health concerns. Going forward, a good practice for all students is to carefully evaluate their progress in courses by week 7 of the term and if they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop courses by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Upon your return to your studies in the future, I encourage you to consider registering with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor who may be able to help you manage both your academics along with your health related challenges.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
