Dear Elizabeth Panos:

I have carefully considered your appeal to extend Incomplete grades in ECON 255, POLS 261, ECON 212, LAW 201 (F 2018) and LLCU 213, ECON 232, ECON 250, COMM 221 (W 2019). After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.

As you know, Appeal Regulation 3.3.5 notes that Incomplete grades are approved by instructors with outstanding work deadlines extended for a period of one full term after the completion of a class and is usually granted. Normally, this is an option when only a minimal amount of the course work is outstanding. If this timeline is not met, any further request to submit incomplete work or to write a final examination after that term has elapsed must be made through a formal appeal. At that time a careful review of the amount of course work outstanding will be reviewed and instructors will be consulted regarding that aspect as well as their ability to accept outstanding work after an extended period of time.

The circumstances you outline in your letter were, I€™m sure difficult to manage, but the information we have received from your instructors indicate that you have not completed an appropriate amount of course work to warrant an extension of Incomplete grades.

I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision but based on the circumstances and documentation you have provided, I am willing to drop ECON 255, POLS 261, ECON 212, LAW 201 (F 2018) and LLCU 213, ECON 232, ECON 250, COMM 221 (W 2019) late. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will amend your transcript accordingly.

Going forward, I strongly encourage you to continue to work with your health care professionals, including QSAS, and to pause and evaluate your progress in a course by week 7 of the term. If you are finding the material too difficult or have not kept up with the course work, you should drop the course by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadline is set at Week 8 to allow students plenty of time to assess their progress in a class and withdraw without any academic penalty if they feel that they cannot keep up with the demands or have the academic background needed to successfully complete it.
