Dear Alexander Leckebusch-Peters:
I received your letter of appeal requesting a late drop in EMPR 220 (F 2019) and I am sorry to have read of your health challenges late in the term. After reviewing your appeal letter, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
I am sure this is a disappointing decision, but the information we received from your instructor shows that you had not submitted any assignments in this course until November 17th so altering a transcript would not be appropriate since you were failing the course prior to your illness.
Another option Alexander may be to request an Incomplete grade in this course and if the instructor agreed, you could complete the outstanding assignments that were due after November 27th (Case Analysis €“ Final Report, Personal Growth Reflection 4 and the Final Exam). Please advise by January 7th if you would like to pursue that option and my office will reach out to the instructor to seek support for an Incomplete grade in EMPR 220, thus giving you more time to complete the requirements as noted above.
