Dear Brynley Whitton:
I have carefully considered your appeal to add GNDS 125 (F 2019) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
I understand that you were originally registered in this course but dropped it and now wish to add it back. That deviates from the purpose of a late add appeal as it is designed for students who may have missed the date to register by a few days due to documented extenuating circumstances. A request for a late add is not designed to register students in a course after the term has ended or after they had purposefully dropped it. In my opinion, you made a very wise academic decision by pausing to evaluate your progress in this course and due to the timing of implementing your accommodations, knew that it would be difficult and stressful to catch up. This is exactly the advice I would have given you so am very pleased to see that you made a good decision to drop this course. GNDS 125 is a reoccurring course offered online so I hope it will be available to you again soon so you can attempt that course once again in the future if you wish.
For your information, registration for our Summer term on-line courses begins on February 3rd. I would encourage you to review the course offerings during that upcoming term. The on-line courses available can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci_online/courses .
