Appeal Number: 6442
Decision Date: January 13, 2020
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Meghan Costello
Student Email: 18mcc3@queensu.ca
Course: ASTR 101
Term: Fall
Year: 2019
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Meghan Costello:
I was sorry to read of the difficult circumstances you experienced during the Fall term 2019 and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ASTR 101 (F 2019) past the academic deadline due to those circumstances. After reviewing your file and documentation, I have decided to grant your request.
I would like to note that I have exercised some leniency in this decision since the documentation you submitted does not provide me with information as to how your circumstance impacted your studies. However, I am pleased to see that you have sought out the supports available at Student Wellness Services and encourage you to follow through with your plan to schedule regular appointments with a counsellor.
Going forward, you should pause to reflect on your progress during week 7 & 8 of term and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and completing your readings and assignments on time. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in, or are finding too difficult, by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline).
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck with your courses this term.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
