Dear Victoria Siracusa:
I have carefully considered your appeal to add WRIT 120 and ENIN 140 (W 2020) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established in order to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload. I understand that your medical condition has meant that you are now completing your courses from home and have only recently determined that. I am not convinced that adding two courses late is a good academic decision. I can see from your file that you have been working with our Accommodation team to find a successful way to complete your current courses from home. Perhaps continuing to work with that office to complete your current courses may be a better approach that adding two new courses. Or, if your health is impacting your studies, you may want to consider dropping a course (or more) by the February 28th drop date to help alleviate some pressure so you can focus on your health and remaining courses.
For your information, registration for our Summer term on-line courses began on February 3rd I would encourage you to review the course offerings during that upcoming term if you wish to drop courses this term to lighten your course load. The on-line courses available can be found at https://www.queensu.ca/artsci_online/.
