Dear Yiwei Zhang:

I was sorry to read that you were struggling with health related challenges last semester and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 112, CISC 121 and GNDS 120 (F 2019) past the academic deadline. I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances but I do need to warn you that you should be carefully assessing your health during the upcoming summer term. You are in an excessive amount of courses, since we recommend two courses during that term, and appealing to drop summer term courses based on the same circumstances, while carrying such a heavy course load, may well be denied.

Going forward, a good practice for all students to follow, is to evaluate their progress in their studies prior to the drop date deadlines. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

I also strongly suggest that you register with QSAS, if you have not done so already, and work with a QSAS advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health related challenges.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
