I am sorry to have read in your appeal letter the challenges you outlined and I have reviewed your appeal to change the grades you received in PHIL 410, PHIL 459 and PHIL 346 (F 2019), to Credit standing. After careful consideration of the documentation you submitted and the information supplied by the instructors about the circumstances surrounding these courses, I have decided the following:
1. To grant your request for Credit standing in PHIL 410 and PHIL 347. Your grades in PHIL 410 and PHIL 347 will appear on your transcript as CR.
2. To deny your request to receive Credit in PHIL 459. As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course and met the learning outcomes, including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€ Unfortunately, the instructor advised that you did not demonstrate that the learning outcomes were met since you received a failing grade on your final take-home exam.
Suruthey, let me remind you that if a student repeats a course, the lower grade is excluded from their GPA and the higher grade is included. Going forward, I encourage you to pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of term. If you have fallen behind in your studies due to your health or other extenuating circumstances, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline date.
