Dear Joshua Blake-Williams:

I was sorry to read of the health-related challenges you have outlined in your letter of appeal. Understandably you would have had difficulties as you adjusted to various medications. After careful consideration of your appeal to drop ECON 361 (W 2019) and ECON 322, ANAT 100, CISC 235 (F 2019) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request.

Given your circumstances, I am also willing to grant you Credit standing in ECON 243 (W 2019) and ECON 320 (F 2019) as well. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Instead, students should register with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor to manage their academics and I encourage you to do so, if you have not done so already and feel their assistance would be beneficial.

Going forward, you should also pause and evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The week 8 drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
