I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal the challenges you outlined and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CLST 130 (F 2018) and GEOL 106 (W 2019) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request in spite of a previous appeal submitted to drop SPAN 111 (F 2018) which was granted. Regulation 3.2.2.5 states that students are not able to revisit the same time period in submitting subsequent appeals. For example, if a student has appealed to drop one or more classes without academic penalty in a Term, he or she is not able to make a subsequent different appeal in relation to that same time period.
Fangyu, I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Instead, students should register with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor to manage their academics. I am pleased to see that you are working with a health care professional in Student Wellness Services and encourage you to continue to do so.
Going forward, you should also pause and evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The week 8 drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
