Dear Ashley,
I have reviewed your appeal request for a re-read of your PHGY 216 (W 2020) exam and have consulted the instructor regarding this request. I have carefully reviewed the facts and I understand that this exam started at 9:30 am (scheduled from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm) and you arrived online to write the exam at 9:54 am. The system recorded that you stopped writing at 1:34 pm due to a technical error and therefore lost 26 minutes of writing time. Students were instructed to report technical issues and delays to the contact information provided during the exam and unfortunately you did not contact technical support because you assumed that this error was a result of the accommodations not being correctly programmed in the system. You report therefore that you did not have time to review your answers.
I fully recognize the technical error that occurred during the PHGY 216 exam was beyond your personal control and acknowledge that you did not receive 26 minutes of time you were entitled to receive for this exam. However, taking all of the above factors into consideration including the timing of your action to notify instructor and Dr. Ward€™s review of the exam paper itself, I must support Dr. Ward€™s decision in this case.
The other appeal option available may be Credit standing (which is an option for students who earned a substantially lower grade (normally in the range of C to D-) due to extenuating circumstances. This term however the students can request a grade of P (pass) which would be the option available and would not require an appeal. Students may also elect to repeat a course if they feel the next attempt would ensure they earn a higher grade. In this scenario, the lower grade would be excluded from the GPA and the higher grade would be included in the GPA. We would be happy to provide further information and guidance if you wish to pursue either of these options. I do realize that these remedies may not meet your needs but unfortunately, we are limited by the scope of the academic regulations.
