Course: PHIL 250
Term: Fall/Winter

Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Ryan Lai:
I have read with interest your appeal requesting an extension on the COVID 19 remedies that were offered to students and I understand that you are seeking a late drop of PHIL 257 and a P grade in PHIL 250 (FW 2019/20). In your letter of appeal you report that you missed the May 20th deadline as well as the June 10th deadline extension as you were busy assisting your family and unaware of the remedies offered to Queen€™s students. After reviewing your appeal letter and your extenuating circumstances, I have decided to deny your request.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision, however, students were advised through a variety of channels providing information related to the remedies available including social medial, emails and newsletters which outlined the deadline dates to request the P grade and (DR). So I cannot, in good conscience, alter your transcript based on that circumstance.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€). Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).
Sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
