Student Name: Aminah Beg

Course: DEVS 305
Term: Winter
Year: 2020
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Aminah Beg:

I was sorry to read of the difficult challenges you experienced during the winter term. No doubt your mother€™s illness as well as the isolation that was required with COVID19 was difficult. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop DEVS 305 (W 2020) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your appeal letter and documentation, I have decided to grant your request.

Going forward, a good practice for all students is to inform themselves of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page. I would encourage you to pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the term and if you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop your courses prior to that deadline date. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.

I encourage you to continue to seek the support you need Aminah and remember that Queen€™s also has supports available through our Student Wellness Services office.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I do hope you enjoy your time home with your mother.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
