Appeal Number: 6881
Decision Date: September 2, 2020
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Rachel Miller
Student Email: 17reim@queensu.ca
Course: BCHM218
Term: Summer
Year: 2020
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Rachel Miller:
I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal. No doubt the passing of so many people close to you has been difficult to deal with and I will grant your appeal to drop BCHM 218 (S 2020) past the academic deadline based on those circumstances.
I encourage you to reach out to our Student Wellness Services Rachel if you wish to seek support regarding the grief you may be experiencing. I also suggest you consider registering with QSAS regarding your ongoing and chronic illness and work with a QSAS Advisor who can help support both your health and academics by putting in place appropriate accommodations so you can meet your course work requirements.
Going forward, I encourage you to pause and evaluate your progress in courses prior to the drop date deadlines and if you have been unable to keep up with the course requirements or feel that dropping a course is in your best interest, you should do so by the date deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck in your studies in the coming year.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
