Dear Juliana Boehler:
I am sorry to read in your letter of appeal that you have encountered family related challenges during your studies at Queen€™s which have impacted your courses. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop COGS 100 (F 2017), LING 100 (FW 2017/18), CISC P81 (W 2018), MATH 126 & PSYC 100 (FW 2018/19), FREN 230 (W 2019), PSYC 100 & COGS 100 (S 2019), LAW 201 (F 2019), ANAT 100 (S 2020) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your appeal and documentation, I have decided to grant your request.
I have exercised some leniency in this decision, acknowledging the difficult challenges you have been facing. Going forward, I suggest that you continue to work with your Counsellor and to consider using the additional supports the university has available including requesting Academic Consideration for extensions in course work if necessary which can help you through difficult circumstances.
A good practice for all students Juliana is to pause and evaluate your progress in your courses prior to the drop date deadlines and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and are completing your assignments on time. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind by the drop deadline. Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute and is not meant to manage ongoing conditions.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck in the continued progression of your degree.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
