Dear Navdeep Brar:
I have carefully considered your appeal to add FILM 236 (F 2020) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond their control.
The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established in order to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload.
I recognize that this is a disappointing decision Navdeep, but I want to remind you that this is your first term at Queen€™s University and adding a Fall term course after missing the first 5 weeks of classes would not be a smart academic decision. Also, as the instructor of this course has reported that you have already missed three graded components to date and as FILM 236 is not a requirement for your Psychology Plan, I simply cannot support your request at this late time.
I see you are currently enrolled in 6 courses for the Fall 2020 term. Please know that this is very a heavy course load and so I would suggest that you plan to assess your progress in each course before the Academic Drop Deadline of November 2, 2020 and consider dropping courses that may be more difficult or that you have fallen behind in.
