Dear Samantha Gillen:
I have carefully considered your appeal to extend your Incomplete grade in PSYC 100 (FW 2019/20). After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Appeal Regulation 3.3.5 notes that Incomplete grades are approved by instructors with outstanding work deadlines extended for a period of one full term after the completion of a class and is usually granted. Normally, this is an option when only a minimal amount of the course work is outstanding. If this timeline is not met, any further request to submit incomplete work or to write a final examination after that term has elapsed must be made through a formal appeal. At that time a careful review of the amount of course work outstanding will be reviewed and instructors will be consulted regarding that aspect as well as their ability to accept outstanding work after an extended period of time.
The work-related circumstances you outlined, which caused you to miss the deferred date for your exam, are unfortunately not considered extenuating circumstances. In addition, the documentation you have submitted is not relevant to the reasons why you were unable to complete the exam on the September 2nd scheduled date.
I have noted that you have submitted several requests for Consideration in the past, and suggest that you to continue to work with your health care professionals, including QSAS, if your accommodations need to be adjusted.
Going forward, I encourage you to pause and evaluate your progress in a course by week 7 of the term. If you are finding the material too difficult or have not kept up with the course work, you should drop the course by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadline is set at Week 8 to allow students plenty of time to assess their progress in a class and withdraw without any academic penalty if they feel that they cannot keep up with the demands or have the academic background needed to successfully complete it.
