I was sorry to read about the difficulties you experienced during the Winter term and Fall term 2019 and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop POLS 385 and POLS 465 (W 2019) and GLPH 271, HIST 200, LLCU 209 (F 2019) past the academic deadline, as well as receive Credit standing in LIBS 100 (F 2019). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
€¢ To grant your request to drop POLS 385 and POLS 465 (W 2019) and GLPH 271, HIST 200, LLCU 209 (F 2019) past the academic deadline.
€¢ To deny your request for Credit standing in LIBS 100. As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€ Credit standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control. Your instructor has advised me that you did not submit any of the Critical Position Papers which were part of the course requirements, so unfortunately you did not complete all the work in the course. He mentioned that he agreed to mark the papers late if you submitted them, but I understand he did not hear anything further from you.
I am however willing to drop LIBS 100 late if you prefer the drop in the course rather than your current grade of D+. This is highly irregular, but I can see that your extenuating circumstances may have prevented you from achieving a higher grade and understand if you would like this course dropped as well. Please note however that if you do decide to drop LIBS 100 late, you will not have met the required number of units to graduate. If you wish to drop LIBS 100 late, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we can amend your transcript accordingly.

I encourage you to continue to work with your counsellor and your QSAS Advisor if you choose to take additional courses as Queen€™s. Your QSAS Advisor can help support both your health and academics. If you do register in additional courses, I would suggest that you pause and assess your progress in your courses or discuss your options with an Academic Advisor during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
