Dear Hannah Ross:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive an Extension of an Incomplete in BIOL 330 (Fall 2019), and for Aegrotat Standing in CHEM 281 and BIOL 350 (Fall 2019) .After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1) To grant your request for an Extension of an Incomplete in BIOL 330 (Fall 2019). You are permitted up to December 31, 2020 at the latest to complete the outstanding work in this class and it is your responsibility to contact Professor Monaghan to make the appropriate arrangements.
2) To deny your request to receive Aegrotat Standing in CHEM 281 (Fall 2019) as the information that I received from your instructor indicates that you had only completed 30 of the work in this course and are therefore not eligible for this academic appeal option. Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€. I am however willing to allow you to drop this course after the academic deadline based on the circumstances outlined and the documentation you have provided. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
3) To deny your request to receive Aegrotat Standing in BIOL 350 (Fall 2019) as the information that I received from your instructor indicates that you had only completed 42 of the work in this course and are therefore not eligible for this academic appeal option. I acknowledge from your appeal letter that you had considered requesting an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in this class and both your instructor and I agree that it would not be in your best interest to write an exam worth 58 so long after you had originally learned the course material. I am however, willing to allow you to drop this course after the academic deadline based on the circumstances outlined and the documentation you have provided. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€). Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).
Sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
