Course: ITLN111
Term: Fall
Year: 2020
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Brynn Plaxton:

I was sorry to have read about the difficulties that you have faced with learning a new language through an asynchronous online platform and of the additional family-related responsibilities that you have recently taken on. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ITLN 111 (F 2020) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the information provided in your supporting documentation regarding this course and the unexpected impacts that your family has experienced due to COVID-19. I also acknowledge that you have enrolled in a Summer term course to make up for the missing units due to dropping ITLN 111. Going forward, I suggest that you evaluate your progress in your courses prior to week 8 of each term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
