I am sorry to have read about the challenges you are currently facing during the Fall term and have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 205 (Fall 2020) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
I certainly empathize with your situation Kevin, but competing commitments such as working full time while attending school are not typically grounds for an appeal. An extenuating circumstance is defined as a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond a student€™s control and debilitating to his or her academic performance. In general, an appeal would be successful when there are significantly extenuating circumstances, which would merit the waiving of an academic regulation. This is a disappointing decision I am sure however, with the absence of documentation from a professional to verify the impacts of your family-related circumstances on your Fall term courses, I simply cannot grant your request at this time.
