I am saddened to read in your letter of appeal that a family member has recently passed away and am sorry for your loss. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 250 and POLS 261 (F 2020) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your appeal, I have decided to grant your request.
I have exercised some leniency in this decision, acknowledging this difficult circumstance, but we normally do require some type of documentation to support a student€™s extenuating circumstance. Going forward, I suggest that you consider using the supports the university has available including requesting Academic Consideration for extensions in course work if necessary, as well as the support services offered through Student Wellness Services to help you through difficult circumstances.
A good practice for all students Rukalya is to pause and evaluate your progress in your courses prior to the drop date deadlines and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and are completing your assignments on time. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind by the drop deadline. Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8, such as your situation, or whose problems become more acute and is not meant to manage ongoing conditions.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
