Year: 2020
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Xiaoyin Shi:

I was sorry to read that you were struggling during Fall term due to various health related issues as well as COVID19. After carefully considering your appeal to drop ARTH 271 and ARTH 288 (F 2020) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances and am hoping this is a learning experience for you Xiaoyin to evaluate the impact of your health or circumstances on your studies during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students. I encourage you to consider registering with QSAS, if you have not done so already, and work with an accommodation advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health related challenges.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
