Dear Senna Baldwin:
I was so sorry to read of the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and understand that these are difficult circumstances to deal with. I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat standing KNPE 251 and HLTH 252 (F 2020). After reviewing your file, I unfortunately must deny your request.
Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€. Unfortunately, both the instructors in these courses noted that you have not completed at least 60 of the course work so this appeal option is not applicable.
I do wonder if you may be able to complete the course requirements Senna and then, if you pass the courses but earn a substantially lower grade due to your obvious health-related challenges, you could appeal for Credit standing. Credit standing is an appeal option for students who complete all the work in a course but earn a substantially lower grade due to their documented extenuating circumstances. This appeal option would give you credit for the courses, but the grades would not negatively impact your GPA. I understand that completing the course work may be a challenge along with taking a full winter term course load, so you may want to consider dropping one or two winter term courses so you can complete KNPE 251 and HLTH 252.
Senna, I am willing to drop KNPE 251 and HLTH 252 late based on the circumstances outlined and the documentation you have provided. If you prefer that option rather than attempting to complete the courses, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and let us know you wish to accept this offer and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
